What's the Amerks' status at this point?

While the brouhaha over the Rhinos and PAETEC Park continues, the future of the Rochester Sports Group's indoor teams — the hockey Amerks and the lacrosse Knighthawks — also remains clouded.

Steve Donner has said for months that he is in negotiations with a possible new investor who could pump money into the sagging indoor franchises.

Donner and co-owner Walter Turek are also talking with disgruntled co-owner Randall Latona about a possible buyout of Latona's shares and an amicable resolution to the lawsuits Latona has filed against Donner, Turek and the two teams.

However, RSG media-relations director Craig Rybczynski said this week that there are no new developments on those fronts.

Is that cause for concern? The identity of this mystery investor still hasn't been revealed, which creates some skepticism on my part. However, I was also skeptical that Donner actually had an investor for the Rhinos, but it turns out that such a person is indeed real.

I suppose I have to wonder if the problems facing the Amerks and Knighthawks is as dire as the ones facing the Rhinos. The situation over at PAETEC Park has been painted bleakly: If the Dan Williams deal falls through, the Rhinos (and Rattlers) might be done for, at the very least for the 2008 season.

Is that also the case at Blue Cross Arena?

  • Ryan,

I've got a question...If fat man Donner is broke how is he coming up with the money to buy Latona out? Must be the 7 million..sorry 6.4 million that is missing

  • They are just as broke as they were when Ryan first started the deluge. The RSG is in serious trouble. Pumping money into the situation isn't going to help. The funds will continue to co-mingle and the hole will just continue to get deeper. New management needs to be brought in. All these idiots need to be held accountable for their misdeeds. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the "missing" money is being sheltered somewhere.
